COMMENTS

The drafting of the SMPs are guided by small interdisciplinary Reserve Planning Teams (RPTs) comprising Cluster Managers (where applicable), Reserve Managers, Regional Program Managers, Scientific Services and contracted reserve planning service providers. Iterative drafts of the SMPs were presented to, and discussed by, the RPTs before broader circulation for inputs from local stakeholder groups and the public.

The purpose of the Strategic Management Plans are to ensure that the nature parks managed by EC Parks have clearly defined objectives and activities to direct the protection and sustainable use of their natural, scenic and heritage resources over a five year time horizon.

The SMPs indicate where Reserve Management Teams intend to focus their efforts over the next five years, and as such provide medium-term operational frameworks for the prioritised allocation of resources and capacity in the management, use and development of the parks.
