
Lake !Gariep is situated 190km south of Bloemfontein or 44km north of Colesberg, just off the N1 highway. It is borders between the three provinces of the Free State, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape.
Oviston Nature Reserve comprises a long, narrow strip of land, situated on the southern shoreline of !Lake Gariep in the north-eastern part of the Eastern Cape. The reserve extends from the Gariep Dam wall in the west to the Bethulie rail-road bridge in the east.
Follow the N1
Go past Bloemfontein, Edenburg, Trompsburg, Springfontein & Priors
Take Exit #8 (Gariep
Dam) from the N1, ±190km south of Bloemfontein
Just off the N1, turn Left at the Stop sign
After ±4km turn Left into the village of Gariep
Dam (first entrance)
After ±5km turn Left to cross the dam wall (Sign: Port Elizabeth/ Colesberg)
At the Stop sign after ±7km, turn Left onto the R58 to Venterstad
(this is at the crossroad to Colesberg/Venterstad)
Continue on the R58, turn Left onto the R405 to Oviston
(before reaching Venterstad).
Follow the N1
Go past Colesberg
Off the N1 at Colesberg take exit R58 Burghersdorp
Turn right at the Stop
Go under N1 to the next Stop
Turn left onto the R58, to Venterstad
Continue on the R58,
Turn Left onto the R405 to Oviston
(before reaching Venterstad).
